Stakeholder forum on Germany's Strategy for International Digital Policy

On 17 November 2023, the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) hosted another Stakeholder Forum International Digital Policy. The aim was to exchange views on BMDV's draft of Germany’s Strategy for International Digital Policy. Representatives from more than 60 organisations from business, science, civil society and the technical community took part in the virtual event.

On 8 November 2023, the Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue moderated an online panel at the Brazilian Innovation Week, annually hosted by the National School of Public Administration (ENAP). The focus of the panel “Global and local: International inputs for the national strategy of digital government” lied on discussing international best practices of the digital transformation of the public sector.

Roundtable to strengthen Indo-German collaboration in the start-up ecosystem

Representatives of the start-up ecosystem of both India and Germany met at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in New Delhi on 2 November 2023. They exchanged views on cooperation opportunities, looked back at activities in 2023 and planned for 2024. The discussions focused on challenges and solutions to strengthen collaboration between India and Germany on start-up opportunities.

On 26 September, stakeholders of the Indonesian-German Digital Dialogue met in a hybrid mode to exchange views on data protection. They dived into the respective data protection policies in Indonesia and Germany and discussed the global significance of data protection frameworks.

IGF 2023: Workshops on digital public infrastructure and services

The Secretariat for the International Digital Dialogues organised several events at this year’s UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF) from 8 to 12 October 2023 in Kyoto, Japan. In addition to two receptions, two workshops on crucial topics took place. The workshops brought together a diverse range of experts to discuss how to build trust in user-centric digital public services (DPS) and how to create digital public infrastructure (DPI) that empowers people.

Panel discussion on digitalisation of MSMEs at Industrial Transformation Mexico (ITM)

The Secretariat for the Mexican-German Digital Dialogue and the Green Recovery project of GIZ Mexico co-organised a panel discussion at this year’s Industrial Transformation Mexico (ITM) in León, Guanajuato. The panel on 6 October addressed the digitalisation of micro-, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

Third Annual Meeting of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue

On 14 September 2023, high-ranking government officials from Brazil and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to digital policy cooperation. Alongside representatives from business, civil society and academia, they assessed opportunities for joint cooperation activities. The Annual Meeting was complemented by a diverse programme that included meetings and visits to prominent companies and public agencies.

Workshop series on data spaces within Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue

In collaboration with key stakeholders from the initiative “Data Spaces in Brazil”, the Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue promoted a series of discussions on data spaces. Three technical workshops took place in Porto Alegre, São Paulo and Brasília. They highlighted the potential of data spaces to foster innovation and enhance the data ecosystems in Brazil and Germany.

BMDV delegation visits Brazil to exchange on digital transformation

From 9 to 13 September 2023, a delegation from the German Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) visited São Paulo and Brasília. Benjamin Brake, Director General Digital and Data Policy at BMDV, led the delegation. The visit aimed to foster cooperation and exchange of knowledge in digital transformation between Germany and Brazil.
